Whitman College is a fully vaccinated campus, requiring all students and employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

For the Spring 2023 semester, all students, faculty and staff must be up to date on the COVID-19 vaccine and boosters or have an approved exemption in order to come to campus. 

Visitors to campus are strongly encouraged to be up-to-date on the COVID-19 vaccine and boosters.

Weekly COVID-19 Testing Results: Feb. 27–March 5, 2023

Testing at Whitman testing of student-athletes during the competitive season, and testing as needed for individuals with symptoms of COVID-19 or identified as a close contact to someone with COVID-19. This data is updated weekly on Mondays.

This is the cumulative COVID-19 testing data for spring 2023 semester, beginning January 16, 2023. This includes testing done due to symptoms, exposure to COVID-19, and testing of student-athletes.

Glossary of Important Terms

Active Cases –  The number of employees and students in isolation on the final day of the reporting period due to positive cases of COVID-19.

Baseline Testing – mandatory testing for every member of the Whitman community over a designated period of time, usually at the start of the semester or following an extended campus break.

Campus Population Boostered – The percentage of the on-campus population who have received the COVID-19 booster. This does not include people who are not yet eligible to receive the booster.

Campus Population Vaccinated – The percentage of the on-campus population who have received the total required doses of COVID-19 vaccine. This does not include people who have received one dose of a two dose vaccine. 

Community Positivity Rate – The number of positive cases per week divided by the total number of people in the Whitman campus community.

Employees – Faculty and staff who are employed at Whitman. 

Isolation Spaces Occupied – The number of on-campus isolation spaces occupied by students with confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the final day of the reporting period. Whitman has 65 total isolation spaces.

Test Positivity Rate The number of positive tests divided by the total number of tests administered.

Positive Test – A test result that indicates the person has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Students – Students who are residing in on-campus housing or living in the Walla Walla region and accessing campus.

Surveillance Testing – Ongoing COVID-19 testing of randomized samples of the Whitman population.

Test Turnaround Time - It generally takes approximately 36-48 hours for individuals to receive test results. 

Tests Administered  Total number of tests administered by Whitman College as part of required weekly testing for people with approved vaccination exemptions, testing of student-athletes during the competitive season, testing due to potential symptoms or exposure, and other on-campus testing as needed.
